Ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel release using the MICROi-Blade is effective. This minimally invasive technique showed reduced pain and improved function with a rapid return to work, with no reported complications.

Background:

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a common condition causing hand pain and numbness.
Traditional carpal tunnel release surgery can involve larger incisions and longer recovery times.
Ultrasound guidance offers potential for more precise and less invasive surgical interventions.

Observation:

A novel needle-based tool, the MICROi-Blade, was used for 166 microinvasive ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel releases.
Follow-up data from 21 initial cases (including 5 bilateral) and 62 subsequent cases were analyzed.
Patient-reported outcomes included median pain scores and Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ) scores.

Findings:

A progressive reduction in median pain scores was observed over 6 months.

Significant improvements in BCTQ Symptom Severity and Functional Status Scale scores were noted.

The median time to return to work was 7 days, with similar results in subsequent cases.

Implications:

Microinvasive ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel release with the MICROi-Blade appears to be a safe and effective treatment option.
This technique facilitates a faster return to daily activities and work.
Further research may validate this approach for broader clinical application in managing carpal tunnel syndrome.
