CVDentus ultrasonic tips demonstrated superior root-end preparation wall quality compared to NSK tips. Both tip types showed similar results for microcracking, preparation time, and marginal integrity in this endodontic study.
Area of Science:
- Endodontics
- Dental Materials Science
- Surgical Technology
Background:
- Root-end preparation is a critical step in endodontic surgery.
- Ultrasonic tips are commonly used for root-end preparation, but their comparative performance can vary.
- Assessing tip durability and effect on root canal morphology is essential for clinical success.
Purpose of the Study:
- To compare the effectiveness of CVDentus and NSK ultrasonic tips in root-end preparation.
- To evaluate preparation time, root surface microcracking, marginal integrity, and debris presence.
- To assess the morphological changes and wear of the ultrasonic tips post-use.
Main Methods:
- Thirty-two teeth underwent root-end resection and were randomly assigned to CVDentus or NSK tip groups.
- Preparation time was recorded, and photomicrographs assessed microcracking, marginal integrity, and debris.
- Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyzed tip morphology before and after use.
Main Results:
- No significant differences were found in microcracking incidence (12.5%), marginal integrity (p=0.102), or preparation time (p=0.780).
- CVDentus tips resulted in significantly less debris compared to NSK tips (p=0.003).
- SEM analysis revealed significant wear and particle loss on NSK tips, while CVDentus tips showed minimal changes.
Conclusions:
- CVDentus ultrasonic tips exhibit superior quality in root-end preparation walls compared to NSK tips.
- Both tip types yield comparable results regarding microcracking, preparation time, and marginal integrity.
- The enhanced durability of CVDentus tips suggests better long-term performance and reduced potential for material shedding.
