Background:

Adolescent males, particularly young fathers, may face unique challenges in accessing healthcare.
Preventive care, such as routine physicals, is crucial for maintaining adolescent health.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the association between fatherhood status and receipt of preventive care among adolescent males.
To determine if attending a child's medical appointments influences an adolescent male's likelihood of receiving preventive care.

Main Methods:

Secondary analysis of cross-sectional data from the 2011-2017 National Survey of Family Growth.
Inclusion of 3,831 males aged 15-21 years.
Logistic regression models used to assess odds of having a routine physical.

Main Results:

Adolescent fatherhood was significantly associated with reduced odds of receiving a routine physical (aOR=0.56, CI=[0.32, 0.99]).
Attending a child's appointment showed no significant association with receiving a routine physical (aOR=0.18, CI=[0.01, 2.31]).

Conclusions:

Adolescent fatherhood is linked to lower utilization of routine physical examinations.
Identifying barriers to preventive care is essential for developing interventions to support adolescent fathers' health.
