Shared breastfeeding & other early multiple sclerosis risk factors: A case-control study

- Shared breastfeeding (OR=0.58) and older age at school entry (OR=0.83) were associated with decreased MS risk.
- Longer breastfeeding duration by the mother (OR=1.03), higher sibling rank (OR=1.69), and more household members at birth (OR=2.32) were linked to increased MS risk.
- MS patients were less likely to have received formula with breastfeeding (OR=0.72).
Conclusions:
- Early life factors significantly contribute to the risk of developing MS.
- Novel associations with shared breastfeeding and number of household members at birth warrant further investigation.
- These findings underscore the importance of early life environmental exposures in MS pathogenesis.
