Necrotizing stomatitis, a severe oral condition, can manifest during Herpes Zoster infections. This case highlights a rare occurrence in a patient with mandibular nerve Herpes Zoster.
Area of Science:
- Oral Medicine
- Infectious Diseases
- Dermatology
Background:
- Necrotizing periodontal diseases are acute oral conditions linked to severe illness and reduced immunity.
- Herpes zoster (shingles) is a viral infection caused by Varicella-zoster virus reactivation.
- Limited literature exists on necrotizing stomatitis associated with Varicella-zoster virus infections.
Purpose of the Study:
- To present a case of necrotizing stomatitis in a patient with Herpes Zoster infection.
- To discuss the management of this rare oral manifestation.
Main Methods:
- Case report of a 46-year-old female patient.
- Detailed description of clinical presentation and management of oral lesions.
- Review of existing literature on necrotizing stomatitis and Herpes Zoster.
Main Results:
- The patient presented with necrotizing stomatitis during treatment for Herpes Zoster of the mandibular nerve.
- Successful management of the oral lesion was achieved.
Conclusions:
- Necrotizing stomatitis is a rare but potential oral complication of Herpes Zoster.
- Early recognition and management are crucial for favorable outcomes.
