Background:

  • Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique.
  • While generally safe with positive long-term outcomes, some patients report hearing concerns post-procedure.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To prospectively investigate potential hearing alterations following TMJ arthroscopy.
  • To assess the clinical significance of audiometric changes after TMJ arthroscopy.

Main Methods:

  • Prospective study involving 15 patients undergoing 25 TMJ arthroscopies.
  • Pure-tone audiograms conducted two weeks pre-operatively and six weeks post-operatively.
  • Analysis of audiometric data at specific frequencies (256Hz, 8kHz).
