  • To assess changes in staff satisfaction and perceptions of team support following debriefing implementation.

  • A 7-item survey was administered pre-intervention, 6 months post-intervention, and 1 year post-intervention.
  • A Rapid Post-Code Debriefing form was used, triggered by specific criteria and following a standard format.
  • Data collected included overall satisfaction (0-10 scale) and individual responses, with tracking over time.

Main Results:

  • Overall satisfaction with code response performance significantly increased post-protocol implementation (from M=6.66 to M=7.90, p<0.001).
  • A statistically significant decrease was observed in staff's feelings of emotional support from colleagues after a code (p=0.005).
  • 178 survey responses were collected: 79 pre-protocol, 51 at 6 months, and 48 at 12 months.

Conclusions:

  • The post-code debriefing protocol enhanced overall satisfaction with code conduct and staff perceptions of team leaders.
  • A notable decrease in perceived emotional support among staff during codes was identified.
  • Further research in diverse ED settings is necessary to understand these complex dynamics.
