    Area of Science:

    • Ophthalmology
    • Surgical Techniques

    Background:

    • Cataract and corneal opacity often coexist, necessitating combined surgical approaches.
    • Intracapsular cataract extraction (ICCE) and penetrating keratoplasty (PK) are established procedures.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To demonstrate a combined surgical technique for simultaneous cataract removal and corneal transplantation.
    • To evaluate the long-term postoperative outcomes of this combined procedure.

    Main Methods:

    • A short film showcasing the combined penetrating keratoplasty and intracapsular cataract extraction technique was presented.
    • Seventy-two eyes undergoing the combined procedure were retrospectively analyzed.

    Main Results:

    • Postoperative results were reported for 72 eyes.
    • The average follow-up period was 3 years, indicating sustained outcomes.

    Conclusions:

    • The combined penetrating keratoplasty and intracapsular cataract extraction technique appears to yield positive long-term results.
    • This approach offers a viable solution for patients with concurrent cataracts and corneal disease.
