Pediatric paratesticular masses often stem from common causes but can rarely indicate rare conditions like fibrous hamartoma of infancy or cellular angiofibroma. This study highlights two such unusual pediatric cases.
Area of Science:
- Pediatric Surgery
- Oncology
- Pathology
Background:
- Paratesticular masses are frequently encountered in pediatric surgical practice.
- Differential diagnoses include common conditions like hydrocele, teratoma, and epididymal cysts.
- Malignant lesions, such as rhabdomyosarcoma, must be excluded.
Observation:
- This report details two rare cases of pediatric paratesticular masses.
- The pathologies identified were fibrous hamartoma of infancy and cellular angiofibroma.
- These entities are infrequently seen in pediatric surgical cases.
Findings:
- Confirmed diagnosis of fibrous hamartoma of infancy in one case.
- Confirmed diagnosis of cellular angiofibroma in the second case.
- Demonstrated the occurrence of rare paratesticular pathologies in pediatric patients.
Implications:
- Highlights the importance of considering rare diagnoses in pediatric paratesticular masses.
- Contributes to the literature on uncommon pediatric surgical conditions.
- Aids clinicians in the diagnostic workup of unusual paratesticular lesions in children.
