Functional Classification of Joints01:09

Functional Classification of Joints

5.7K
Functional Classification of Joints
The functional classification of joints is determined by the amount of mobility between the adjacent bones. Joints are functionally classified as a synarthrosis or immobile joint, an amphiarthrosis or slightly moveable joint, or as a diarthrosis, a freely moveable joint. Fibrous and cartilaginous joints can be functionally classified as either synarthroses  or amphiarthroses, whereas all synovial joints are classified as diarthroses.

Space Trusses: Problem Solving

712
A space truss is a three-dimensional counterpart of a planar truss. These structures consist of members connected at their ends, often utilizing ball-and-socket joints to create a stable and versatile framework. Due to its adaptability and capacity to withstand complex loads, the space truss is widely used in various construction projects.
Consider a tripod consisting of a tetrahedral space truss with a ball-and-socket joint at C. Suppose the height and lengths of the horizontal and vertical...

Summary
This summary is machine-generated.

This study introduces a new surgical technique for correcting hallux valgus by fusing the first metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint. The novel approach uses a biplanar locked plating system for triplanar correction, addressing limitations in current literature.

Area of Science:

  • Orthopedic Surgery
  • Foot and Ankle Reconstruction
  • Surgical Innovation

Background:

  • First metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint fusion is effective for hallux valgus with degenerative changes.
  • Existing literature lacks detailed discussion on triplanar correction methods for MTP arthrodesis.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To present a novel surgical approach for triplanar correction and fusion of the first MTP joint.
  • To address the limited literature on comprehensive MTP arthrodesis correction.

Main Methods:

  • Development and application of a novel biplanar locked plating system.
  • Surgical technique focused on achieving triplanar correction during first MTP arthrodesis.

Main Results:

  • The presented technique allows for triplanar correction of the first MTP joint.
  • Successful fusion was achieved utilizing the biplanar locked plating system.

Conclusions:

  • This novel biplanar locked plating technique offers a viable method for triplanar correction in first MTP arthrodesis.
  • The approach addresses a gap in the literature regarding comprehensive correction of the first MTP joint in hallux valgus surgery.
