Summary
A rare vaginal polyp in an infant girl was successfully treated with simple resection. This benign hamartoma, initially resembling sarcoma botryoides, showed no recurrence after 5 years.
Area of Science:
- Gynecologic Pathology
- Pediatric Oncology
Background:
- Vaginal polyps are rare in infants.
- Differential diagnosis of infant vaginal tumors is critical.
Observation:
- A polypoid, yellow vaginal tumor in an infant girl mimicked sarcoma botryoides.
- Histopathology revealed a hamartomatous polyp with hemangiomatous components.
Findings:
- Simple resection was curative.
- No recurrence was observed over a 5-year follow-up period.
Implications:
- Vaginal polyps should be considered in the differential diagnosis of infant vaginal masses.
- Benign hamartomas can present with concerning morphology.
- Conservative management can be effective for pediatric vaginal polyps.
