Summary

Violet LED (VL) light offers a new approach to in-office dental bleaching. This study found no significant difference in whitening results or patient sensitivity between renewing the bleaching gel and keeping it unchanged during VL treatment.

Background:

  • Compared to blue LED systems, VL photons possess higher energy and align with the absorption peaks of stained particles, facilitating whitening through a physical process.

Observation:

  • This split-mouth case report investigated two distinct dental bleaching protocols using VL light on a single patient.
  • One protocol involved renewing the 35% hydrogen peroxide bleaching gel every 8 minutes, while the other maintained the gel without renewal throughout the session.
  • Both protocols utilized VL irradiation (405 nm ± 10 nm) for 24 minutes per session, with two sessions conducted one week apart.

Findings:

  • The study observed no discernible difference in the final tooth color outcome between the two VL bleaching protocols.
