Summary

Postoperative Candida infection, a rare complication in skin surgery, occurred in an immunocompromised patient after complex eyelid reconstruction. Prompt antifungal treatment led to successful healing, highlighting the importance of early recognition.

Background:

  • Initial broad-spectrum antibiotic treatment was ineffective.

Findings:

  • Wound culture confirmed *Candida albicans* infection.
  • The patient responded well to targeted antifungal therapy with fluconazole and clotrimazole.
  • Successful graft healing was achieved despite the infection.

Implications:

  • Early diagnosis and appropriate antifungal treatment are critical for managing postoperative Candida infections.
  • Awareness of risk factors, including immunosuppression and complex surgeries, is essential.
  • This case underscores the need for vigilance in identifying non-bacterial causes of surgical site infections.
