Peripheral T cell lymphoma (PTCL) in Chinese patients shows poor prognosis. The BACOP regimen significantly improved complete response and reduced relapse rates compared to less intensive treatments.

    Area of Science:

    • Hematology
    • Oncology
    • Immunology

    Background:

    • Peripheral T cell lymphoma (PTCL) is a heterogeneous group of non-Hodgkin lymphomas.
    • Understanding the clinicopathological features and treatment outcomes of PTCL is crucial for improving patient survival.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To review the clinicopathological characteristics of PTCL in Chinese patients.
    • To evaluate the efficacy of the BACOP regimen in treating PTCL.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective review of 31 Chinese patients with PTCL.
    • Classification using the modified Japanese Lymphoma Group criteria.
    • Analysis of T cell phenotypes (T4/T8) and treatment outcomes with BACOP regimen versus historic controls.

    Main Results:

    Related Experiment Videos

    • PTCL subtypes included pleomorphic (29%), immunoblastic lymphadenopathy (IBL)-like (52%), T-zone (7%), and Lennert's (3%).
    • T4 (helper) and T8 (suppressor) phenotypes were observed in 54% and 46% of patients, respectively.
    • The BACOP regimen achieved an 84% complete response rate, significantly higher than historic controls (19%). Relapse rates were 9% versus 100%.

    Conclusions:

    • PTCL is associated with advanced disease and poor prognosis, irrespective of subtype or T4/T8 phenotype.
    • The BACOP regimen demonstrates superior efficacy in achieving complete response and reducing relapse rates in PTCL patients.
    • Further studies with larger sample sizes are needed to confirm the survival benefits of the BACOP regimen.
