Mid-term results of Eclipse total shoulder arthroplasty

This study shows excellent mid-term outcomes for Eclipse stemless total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA). The stemless TSA demonstrated good functional results and survivorship, with no loose humeral components at five years.

- Early outcomes are promising, but independent mid-term data are limited.

Purpose of the Study:
- To report mid-term outcomes of the Eclipse stemless TSA.
- To assess functional and radiological results at a minimum of five years.
- To compare outcomes between osteoarthritis and other indications.
Main Methods:
- A consecutive series of 143 Eclipse stemless prostheses in 131 patients were reviewed.
- Primary outcome: Oxford Shoulder Score (OSS) at minimum five years.
- Secondary outcomes: Range of motion, humeral radiolucency, rotator cuff failure, glenoid loosening.
Main Results:
- Mean OSS at 6.67 years was 40.12, showing no significant difference or deterioration over time.
- Significant improvement in range of motion maintained between two and five years.
- 28% showed humeral radiolucency (incomplete, <2mm), 15% glenoid radiolucency, 10% component failure, and 15% rotator cuff failure.
Conclusions:
- The Eclipse stemless TSA demonstrates excellent functional and radiological outcomes with no humeral component loosening at five years.
- Radiolucent lines were observed but did not impact clinical results, requiring long-term monitoring.
- Revisions were primarily due to glenoid and rotator cuff failure.
