Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Immunology

Background:

  • Nodular posterior scleritis (NPS) is an uncommon inflammatory eye disease.
  • Accurate differentiation from other intraocular pathologies is crucial to prevent misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment.

Observation:

  • This case report details the diagnostic process and management of NPS.
  • Multimodal imaging played a key role in confirming the diagnosis.

Findings:

  • The patient diagnosed with nodular posterior scleritis (NPS) showed a complete resolution following corticosteroid therapy.
  • Early and accurate diagnosis is essential for effective management.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the importance of multimodal imaging in diagnosing rare conditions like NPS.
  • Corticosteroid therapy is an effective treatment option for nodular posterior scleritis.
  • Preventing misdiagnosis of NPS can avert potentially irreversible vision damage.
