    Area of Science:

    • Medical Microbiology
    • Dermatology

    Background:

    • Human infections caused by Serratia liquefaciens are infrequently reported.
    • Fistulous pyoderma is a chronic bacterial skin infection characterized by pus-discharging tracts.

    Observation:

    • A patient presented with skin lesions initially suspected to be dermal tuberculosis.
    • Histological, microbiological, and X-ray examinations were conducted for diagnosis.
    • Serratia liquefaciens was identified as the sole causative agent of the skin lesions through microbial culture.

    Findings:

    • The patient's skin lesions resolved completely following treatment.
    • Sulfamethoxazole trimethoprim was the chosen antibiotic regimen for therapy.
    • Antibiotic resistance and sensitivity testing are crucial for effective Serratia infection management.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights Serratia liquefaciens as a potential pathogen in complex skin infections.
    • Effective treatment relies on accurate microbiological diagnosis and targeted antibiotic therapy.
    • Further research may elucidate the prevalence and clinical spectrum of Serratia liquefaciens human infections.
