Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching II: Planning and Implementation

1.3K
Planning for learning involves the development of a teaching plan. Teaching plans are similar to nursing care plans—both follow the steps of the nursing process. Planning in the teaching process involves setting goals and outcomes. Here, goals identify what a patient needs to achieve to understand a healthcare topic better, whereas the outcomes are the action to be performed by the patient to achieve the goal within a timeframe. For example, if the goal is to educate the patient about...

Current Trends in Nursing II

1.4K
Trends in nursing are multifactorial and associated with changes in society, within the nursing profession, and in other professions. Notably, telehealth and remote nursing contribute to successful healthcare delivery for numerous patients and help reduce stress for nurses due to nursing shortages. Nurses can reach patients, monitor their conditions, and interact with them using computers, audio, visual accessories, and telephones—for example, remote patient monitoring systems. Likewise,...

Area of Science:

  • Nursing Leadership
  • Healthcare Management
  • Graduate Education

Background:

  • The Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) role is an emerging advanced practice nursing position.
  • Limited data exists on the career success and satisfaction of CNL graduates.
  • Understanding CNL graduate outcomes is crucial for program development and validation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To delineate the career pathways of Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) graduates.
  • To evaluate the job, life, and educational satisfaction of CNL alumni.
  • To inform the development of the CNL role and its impact on healthcare.

Main Methods:

  • A cross-sectional survey was administered to 109 CNL graduates from a single university.
  • Online data collection facilitated a national sample of participants across the United States.
  • The survey assessed career trajectory and self-reported satisfaction levels.

Main Results:

  • The majority of respondents (95%) were actively employed in nursing roles (full- or part-time).
  • Over 90% of graduates expressed high satisfaction with their decision to pursue nursing.
  • CNL graduates reported high levels of life satisfaction, with a mean score of 24.9 on the Satisfaction with Life Scale.

Conclusions:

  • CNL graduates demonstrate successful career integration within the nursing profession.
  • Findings support the value of CNL education in preparing satisfied and engaged nursing leaders.
  • This data can strengthen the justification for CNL programs and their role in healthcare.
