Coordinating implementation support can help agencies adopt evidence-based treatments. This study examined the Parenting with Love and Limits (PLL) program, finding that structured support led to consistent implementation in most sites.
Area of Science:
- Child and Adolescent Psychology
- Implementation Science
- Public Health
Background:
- Successful implementation of evidence-based treatments relies on community support and leadership.
- Strategies to foster these conditions are less understood.
- This study explores implementation support for Parenting with Love and Limits (PLL).
Purpose of the Study:
- To illustrate the implementation support procedures of PLL.
- To examine the preliminary effectiveness of these procedures.
- To assess factors influencing successful adoption of an evidence-informed family treatment.
Main Methods:
- Reviewed PLL documents and communication records from 23 US sites.
- Utilized the Stages of Implementation Completion (SIC) dashboard to track activities.
- Analyzed quantitative data on implementation progress and discontinuation.
Main Results:
- Nine of 23 sites discontinued pre-implementation; metropolitan sites were more likely to discontinue.
- Fourteen sites successfully launched PLL, showing high activity consistency.
- Sites in the sustainability phase completed an average of 86% of implementation behaviors.
Conclusions:
- Training team coordination of implementation activities shows promise for supporting evidence-based interventions.
- Sustained implementation can enhance community benefits from practice innovations.
- Structured support may improve the uptake of child and adolescent behavior problem treatments.
