Infrared (IR) Spectroscopy: Overview

2.1K
When electromagnetic radiation passes through a material, atoms or molecules transition from a lower to a higher energy state by absorbing radiation corresponding to the energy difference between the two states. The absorption of infrared (IR) radiation causes transitions between vibrational energy levels in a molecule. Therefore, IR spectroscopy is a useful analytical tool for determining the molecular structure of molecules.

Color Vision

653
Color perception begins in the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye. Two main theories explain how colors are seen: the trichromatic theory and the opponent-process theory. The trichromatic theory, proposed by Thomas Young in 1802 and extended by Hermann von Helmholtz in 1852, suggests that color vision is based on three types of cone receptors in the retina. These cones are sensitive to different but overlapping ranges of wavelengths corresponding to red, blue, and green.

Area of Science:

  • Computer Vision
  • Image Processing
  • Night Vision Technology

Background:

  • Direct application of image fusion anti-halation methods to video causes discontinuity.
  • Existing methods struggle with real-time processing and maintaining video continuity in low-light conditions.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To propose an efficient night vision anti-halation method based on video fusion.
  • To address the discontinuity issue in infrared and visible image fusion for videos.
  • To improve the anti-halation processing efficiency for night vision videos.

Main Methods:

  • A frame selection strategy based on inter-frame difference to determine optimal cosine angle thresholds.
  • Time-mark-based adaptive motion compensation for constructing interpolation frames.
  • Adaptive weight construction using inter-frame differences for motion vector estimation.

Main Results:

  • The proposed method ensures maximum safe frame removal while maintaining video continuity across various speeds and halation scenes.
  • The fused video maintains consistent frame numbers and duration with the original video.
  • Interpolated frame content is highly synchronized with original frames, achieving approximately six times higher average FPS than frame-by-frame fusion.

Conclusions:

  • The developed video fusion anti-halation method effectively improves processing efficiency for night vision applications.
  • The method successfully overcomes discontinuity issues and enhances synchronization in fused videos.
  • This approach offers a significant advancement in real-time anti-halation processing for low-light video content.
