[Postthrombotic syndrome 1978 (author's transl)]

Venous reconstruction is frequently endangered by the slow velocity of the blood. Thrombotic occlusion may be prevented by a temporary arteriovenous shunt. The conventional technique of temporary arteriovenous shunting, however, bears the danger of late arterial stenosis. Furthermore, the transposition of blood into the subcutaneous region may result in a dilation of the venous graft. This is demonstrated in a case of Palma's operation. The early results with a suspended ring suture of our own design are encouraging. Surgery of secondary alterations in case of postthrombotic syndrome is illustrated by some outstanding examples.
