This study details a successful surgical repair of a rectus femoris tear using an Achilles tendon allograft in a 48-year-old male. This technique offers a viable option for rectus femoris rupture repair.

  • Subacute and chronic rectus femoris ruptures have limited documented repair options.
  • Surgical intervention is often necessary for significant rectus femoris tears.

Observation:

  • A 48-year-old male presented with a subacute tear of the left rectus femoris muscle.
  • The tear was surgically repaired using an Achilles tendon allograft.

Findings:

  • The allograft was secured distally to the patella with suture anchors and a Krackow technique.
  • Proximal fixation involved multiple sutures connecting the allograft to the remaining rectus femoris tendon.
  • The patient achieved excellent recovery, with near-normal knee flexion and a successful straight leg raise without extensor lag.
