The new Inspection Platform of Visual Function (IPVF) demonstrates high reliability and good agreement with conventional phoropters for visual function assessment, showing excellent repeatability for phoria, negative/positive relative accommodation (NRA/PRA), and accommodative amplitude (AMP).
Area of Science:
- Ophthalmology and Optometry
- Vision Science
- Clinical Instrumentation
Background:
- Phoropters are standard clinical tools for refraction and visual function testing.
- Assessing the reliability of new visual function assessment technologies is crucial for clinical adoption.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the reliability and agreement of the new Inspection Platform of Visual Function (IPVF) compared to a conventional phoropter (TOPCON VT-10).
- To determine the repeatability and concordance of key visual function measurements between the IPVF and phoropter.
Main Methods:
- A prospective study involving 80 eyes of 80 healthy subjects.
- Measurements included horizontal phoria (Phoria_D, Phoria_N), negative/positive relative accommodation (NRA/PRA), and accommodative amplitude (AMP).
- Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) assessed repeatability; Bland-Altman plots evaluated agreement between the IPVF and phoropter.
Main Results:
- Both IPVF and phoropter showed high repeatability for phoria and accommodative amplitude (ICCs 0.87-0.98).
- IPVF demonstrated excellent repeatability for NRA/PRA (ICC 0.96), while phoropter showed acceptable repeatability (ICC 0.732).
- Narrow 95% limits of agreement indicated satisfactory concordance between the two instruments for all measured parameters.
Conclusions:
- The IPVF instrument exhibits high repeatability and satisfactory agreement with a conventional phoropter for visual function assessment.
- The IPVF showed slightly superior repeatability for PRA compared to the phoropter.
- The findings support the IPVF as a reliable tool for clinical visual function testing.
