Summary

This study found no association between ABO blood groups and preeclampsia in Mexican women. Preeclampsia risk was not linked to blood type in either multiparous or nulliparous individuals.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between ABO blood group and preeclampsia in a Mexican population.
  • To analyze this association based on parity status.

Main Methods:

  • A case-control study was conducted with 253 preeclampsia cases and 457 controls.
  • Data were extracted from electronic medical records.
  • Binary multiple logistic regression was employed for analysis, adjusting for confounders.

Main Results:

  • In multiparous women, adjusted odds ratios for blood groups A, B, and AB were 0.6 (95% CI 0.3-1.0), 1.1 (95% CI 0.6-2.2), and 0.3 (95% CI 0.1-1.1), respectively.
  • No significant association was observed between ABO blood groups and preeclampsia in nulliparous women.

Conclusions:

  • ABO blood groups are not associated with preeclampsia in the studied Mexican population.
  • These findings suggest that ABO blood type does not influence preeclampsia risk in this demographic.
