Summary

Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) can occur after SARS-CoV-2 infection. This case report details a patient successfully treated with N-acetylcysteine and steroids for SARS-CoV-2-induced AIH.

Background:

Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a rare liver disease.
The association between SARS-CoV-2 infection and AIH is not well-documented.

Observation:

A male patient presented with symptoms of liver injury two weeks post-SARS-CoV-2 PCR positivity.
Symptoms included weight loss, nausea, jaundice, dark urine, and clay-colored stools.

Findings:

Liver biopsy confirmed autoimmune hepatitis.
The most probable etiology identified was SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Implications:

This case highlights SARS-CoV-2 as a potential trigger for AIH.
Early diagnosis and treatment with N-acetylcysteine and steroids led to clinical improvement.
