Summary

A prostate cancer patient

Area of Science:

  • Oncology

Background:

  • A 70-year-old man with advanced prostate cancer (Gleason 8) presented with elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA).
  • Bone scintigraphy was performed to assess for bone metastases.

Observation:

  • Bone scan showed increased tracer uptake in the right hemipelvis, mimicking bone metastases.
  • Gallium-68-prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) PET-CT was utilized for further evaluation.

Findings:

  • The PSMA PET-CT identified a primary prostate tumor but revealed no PSMA uptake in the sclerotic right hemipelvis.
  • This finding excluded prostate cancer metastasis to the right hemipelvis and confirmed Paget's disease of bone.
