Healthcare Associated Infections II: Preventive Measures01:22

Healthcare Associated Infections II: Preventive Measures

2.6K
Essential infection prevention measures are based on the knowledge of the infection chain, the modes of transmission in healthcare settings, and the use of the best practices in all healthcare settings. Compulsory public reporting of healthcare-associated infection rates is needed to allow individuals and the community to make informed choices regarding selecting a healthcare facility.
The best practices for preventing healthcare-associated infections include hand hygiene, patient risk...

PPE Use in Healthcare Settings II: Doffing01:10

PPE Use in Healthcare Settings II: Doffing

910
The sequence of removing or doffing PPE starts with the gloves, as they are the most contaminated. Next is removal of the face shield or goggles, as they would interfere with removing other PPE. Then remove the gown, followed by the mask or respirator. Perform hand hygiene between steps if hands become contaminated and immediately after removing all PPE. Generally, the outside front and sleeves of the isolation gown, the goggles or the mask, the respirator, and the face shield are contaminated.

Background:

  • Healthcare worker burnout is a significant issue, impacting patient safety, staff retention, and financial stability.
  • Workplace flexibility is strongly linked to reduced burnout, with perceived control over schedules improving employee outlook and stress levels.
  • Existing solutions often focus on individuals, but sustainable change requires comprehensive organizational strategies.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To detail the successful implementation of a condensed work schedule for advanced practice providers (APPs) in infectious diseases.
  • To address prevalent burnout and workload challenges within this healthcare sector.
  • To provide a replicable model for organizational change regarding APP work schedules.

Main Methods:

  • Design and planning of a condensed work schedule tailored to APP roles and infectious disease department needs.
  • Stakeholder engagement to gain buy-in and address concerns regarding the proposed schedule changes.
  • Operational implementation and ongoing monitoring of the new work schedule structure.

Main Results:

  • The implementation of condensed work schedules was successfully executed.
  • APP satisfaction and burnout levels were systematically measured throughout the process.
  • Data indicated a positive impact on APP well-being and schedule control.

Conclusions:

  • Condensed work schedules are a viable and effective strategy for mitigating burnout in healthcare professionals.
  • Organizational initiatives that enhance workplace flexibility, such as condensed schedules, are crucial for sustainable workforce well-being.
  • This model demonstrates a successful approach to improving APP satisfaction and reducing burnout through structural work-life integration.
