- Organic Chemistry
Background:
- Ionic hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (iHOFs) are emerging materials with tunable properties.
- Photochromic materials change color upon light exposure, with applications in data storage and security.
Purpose of the Study:
- To synthesize novel iHOFs by combining organosulfonic acids and amidine salts.
- To investigate the photochromic properties of the synthesized iHOFs, particularly iHOF-18.
- To explore the solvent-dependent nature of iHOF-18's photochromism.
Main Methods:
- Synthesis of iHOF-17 and iHOF-18 through the integration of organosulfonic acids with amidine salts.
- Characterization of the synthesized iHOFs.
- UV-Vis spectroscopy to study photochromic behavior.
- Solvent-controlled experiments to assess environmental influence on photochromism.
Main Results:
- Successful synthesis of two new iHOFs: iHOF-17 and iHOF-18.
- iHOF-18 demonstrated fast, reversible, and high-contrast photochromic responses upon UV irradiation.
- The photochromic properties of iHOF-18 were found to be significantly influenced by the surrounding solvent.
Conclusions:
- The study presents novel iHOFs with promising photochromic functionalities.
- iHOF-18's solvent-controlled photochromism offers a unique mechanism for advanced applications.
- These findings provide valuable insights for developing sophisticated anti-counterfeiting and encryption technologies.
