Ureters

The ureters are retroperitoneal tubes located on either side of the vertebral column. They are responsible for transporting urine from each kidney to the urinary bladder. These tubes have thick walls and are approximately 25-30 cm long. Background:

Retroperitoneal Mullerian cysts are uncommon neoplastic cysts originating from the urogenital system.
Typically asymptomatic, they can cause symptoms due to mass effect, infection, hemorrhage, or rupture.

Observation:

A 30-year-old female presented with abdominal distension and epigastric pain.
Imaging revealed a mass in the retroperitoneal space.

Findings:

Surgical excision of the retroperitoneal mass was performed.
Microscopic examination confirmed a benign cyst of Mullerian origin, lined by ciliated columnar epithelium.

Implications:

This case underscores the importance of considering Mullerian cysts in the differential diagnosis of retroperitoneal masses, especially in women presenting with abdominal symptoms.
Early diagnosis and surgical management are crucial for symptomatic cases.
