Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate alterations in static and dynamic functional brain network connectivity (sFNC and dFNC) in patients with PACG.
  • To correlate these connectivity changes with clinical variables, including intraocular pressure (IOP).

Main Methods:

  • Functional MRI (fMRI) data from 34 PACG patients and 33 healthy controls (HCs) were analyzed.
  • Independent component analysis, sliding window, and k-means clustering were used to assess functional network connectivity (FNC) and temporal metrics across eight resting-state networks.
  • Statistical analyses identified differences in FNC and temporal metrics between groups and correlated them with clinical data.

Main Results:

  • PACG patients exhibited decreased sFNC in specific network pairs (SMN-AN, SMN-VN, VN-AN) compared to HCs.
  • Four distinct dynamic functional connectivity (dFNC) states were identified, showing high congruence with sFNC findings.

  • These results provide a novel perspective on the neuropathological basis of optic nerve damage in PACG.
