Intravenous regional anesthesia or the Bier block technique is used to anesthetize a specific limb or extremity. It uses exsanguinated or blood-drained vessels to transport local anesthetics or LAs to the peripheral nerve trunks. Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of injectable filler (VYC-20L) for improving jowls.
  • To determine if jawline filler efficacy is dependent on concurrent lateral cheek filler injection.

Main Methods:

  • Fifteen female subjects with moderate jowls (grade 2-3) were enrolled.
  • Subjects received VYC-20L in the mandibular angle/ramus (Group 1) or in the mandibular angle/ramus and lateral cheek (Group 2).
  • Evaluations were conducted by blinded dermatologists and subjects at 4 weeks post-injection.

Main Results:

  • Group 1 showed statistically significant jowl improvement across all reviewers.
  • Group 2 achieved statistical significance based on subject ratings but not dermatologist evaluations.
  • A novel adverse event of temporary chewing tenderness was observed.

Conclusions:

  • VYC-20L injection at the mandibular angle and ramus effectively improves jowls.
  • Jawline filler efficacy is independent of concurrent lateral cheek filler treatment.
