Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) primarily center around electronically documenting patients' health information within a single healthcare organization or practice. They contain essential clinical data related to a patient's medical history, diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, lab results, and other pertinent information relevant to the specific encounter or episode of care. EMRs are designed to streamline documentation and workflow processes within individual healthcare...

Issues And Trends In Healthcare Delivery System

5.6K
The issues and trends in healthcare delivery are constantly changing. The COVID-19 pandemic is one recent issue that wreaked havoc on healthcare systems, causing a shortage of healthcare workers, high demand for medicines and supplies, and increased medical expenditure due to a lack of insurance. Other issues include rising healthcare costs and care fragmentation.

Methods of Documentation VI: Case Management Model

564
The case management model is a multidisciplinary approach that involves healthcare professionals from diverse disciplines, such as physicians, nurses, therapists, social workers, and pharmacists, working collaboratively to address the various needs of patients. Each healthcare professional brings unique expertise and perspectives, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of the patient's condition and tailoring treatment plans accordingly.
For example, a patient with a chronic...

Summary

New elastomeric half-mask respirators (EHMRs) without exhalation valves (EVs) or with EV filters (EVFs) cause more discomfort than traditional EHMRs with EVs. This highlights the need for careful respirator selection in healthcare settings.

Area of Science:

  • Occupational Health
  • Respiratory Protection
  • Medical Device Evaluation

Background:

  • New elastomeric half-mask respirators (EHMRs) without exhalation valves (EVs) or with exhalation valve filters (EVFs) are increasingly used in healthcare for worker protection and source control.
  • Physical comfort of these novel EHMR models compared to traditional EHMRs with EVs has not been previously assessed.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the physical comfort and adverse experiences of healthcare personnel wearing EHMRs with EVs versus EHMRs without EVs or with EVFs.

Main Methods:

  • A study involving 1,962 healthcare and emergency medical service personnel was conducted.
  • Two cohorts were assessed: Cohort 1 (n=1,080) wore EHMRs with EVs, and Cohort 2 (n=882) wore EHMRs without EVs or with EVFs.
  • Self-reported adverse experiences were collected and analyzed using Fisher exact test.

Main Results:

  • Cohort 1 reported significantly more communication challenges and discomfort after 1 hour of use.
  • Cohort 2 reported significantly more difficulty breathing, moisture buildup, discomfort within 1 hour, and feeling uncomfortably warm.

Conclusions:

  • Discomfort is common among EHMR users, particularly with models lacking EVs or having EVFs.
  • As EHMR technology advances, increased use in various settings is anticipated.
  • Organizations require guidance on selecting appropriate EHMR models based on specific needs and user experiences.
