Reliability and validity are two important considerations that must be made with any type of data collection. Reliability refers to the ability to consistently produce a given result. In the context of psychological research, this would mean that any instruments or tools used to collect data do so in consistent, reproducible ways.

Background:

Assessing associative memory is crucial for cognitive function evaluation.
Remote administration of cognitive tests presents unique validation challenges.
The Faces and Names test is a tool for evaluating associative memory.

Purpose of the Study:

To validate the Mobile Toolbox Faces and Names test for remote administration.
To assess the reliability and convergent validity of the remotely administered test.
To determine if the test is a dependable instrument for memory assessment.

Main Methods:

Ninety-two participants completed the Faces and Names test in-person.
956 participants completed the test remotely with in-person convergent measures.
123 participants completed the test remotely twice, 14 days apart.
Internal consistency and test-retest reliability were calculated.
Convergent validity was assessed using the WMS-IV Verbal Paired Associates test.

Main Results:

Internal consistency ranged from .76 to .79.
Test-retest reliability (ICC) was .73.
Convergent validity with WMS-IV Verbal Paired Associates was satisfactory (immediate .54; delayed .58).

Conclusions:

The remotely administered Mobile Toolbox Faces and Names test is a reliable instrument.
The findings support the use of this digital tool for associative memory assessment.
Remote administration of cognitive tests can yield dependable results.
