  • Visual acuity was measured using the Teller Acuity Cards II, a psychophysical method.
  • Infants were tested while supine at a 30° elevation on caregivers' laps, with evaluators observing eye fixation.

    • Visual acuity ranged from 0.23 to 0.64 cycles per degree (cpd), with a mean of 0.32 cpd at approximately 32 weeks corrected gestational age.
    • No significant correlation was found between visual acuity and gestational age (p=0.18), birth weight (p=0.83), or duration of respiratory support (p=0.98).
    • A significant inverse correlation was observed between the number of days of phototherapy and visual acuity (p=0.04).
