    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate 4-month-old infants' attentional responses to varying degrees of frequency modulation (FM) in auditory stimuli.
    • To determine if exaggerated intonation patterns, typical in infant-directed speech, are more salient to infants than normal patterns.
    • To assess the role of modulation extent in auditory salience for infants.

    Main Methods:

    • Three experiments utilized habituation-dishabituation and paired-comparison paradigms.
    • Stimuli included exaggerated (adult-to-infant) and normal (adult-to-adult) FM sweeps.
    • Infants' attentional responses were measured through discrimination and differential attention tasks.

    • Further research is needed to identify other factors influencing infant auditory attention.
