Neural markers for mania/hypomania risk are crucial for early bipolar disorder (BD) diagnosis. Elevated left ventrolateral prefrontal cortex (vlPFC) activity during reward expectancy (RE) is associated with mania risk, but this link is weakened by a history of major depressive disorder (MDD).
