Abstract:
Recent reports have shown that the artificial urinary sphincter is a reliable means of achieving urinary continence in both adults and children who have urinary incontinence of various etiologies. Although complications may occur, currently the artificial urinary sphincter is the most efficient means of obtaining urinary continence. The author discusses the features of the device, how to trouble-shoot when problems occur, and the role of the device in patients who have undergone partial or total reconstruction of the bladder with bowel.
