- Nonsurgical rhinoplasty, utilizing hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, is a popular aesthetic procedure.
- Limited histopathological data exist on the effects of HA fillers on nasal cartilage.
Purpose of the Study:
- To histopathologically evaluate the effects of two HA-containing dermal fillers (VYC-20L and VYC-25L) on rabbit nasal cartilage.
Main Methods:
- Sixteen rabbits were divided into two groups, receiving either VYC-20L or VYC-25L in one lateral nasal cartilage and saline in the other (control).
- After 90 days, cartilage samples were analyzed for thickness, chondrocyte nucleus loss, inflammation, fibrosis, giant cells, abscess, and necrosis.
Main Results:
- Significant differences were observed in chondrocyte nucleus loss, fibrosis, and giant cell presence between filler-injected and control cartilages.
- No significant difference in cartilage thickness was noted.
- Giant cells were present in all samples injected with VYC-20L and VYC-25L.
