Abstract:
As artificial intelligence (AI) tools begin to integrate into medical education, it is crucial to reexamine beliefs about the role AI will play in physicians' training and practice. From our experience as medical students, we have learned that innovative applications for AI must be discovered through hands-on experimentation rather than being passed down from well-meaning entities. We utilized a Large Language Model to create image mnemonics for personal study use. Implementations of AI such as ours can reduce the time spent on mundane, mechanistic aspects of medical education, allowing for more focus on the art of medicine. Encouraging students to explore and experiment with AI tools in their day-to-day tasks will lead to further innovative uses that enhance both learning and clinical practice. This bottom-up approach will empower students to identify and solve problems uniquely relevant to their training, ensuring that AI integration in medicine reaches its full potential, enhancing the humanistic aspects of healthcare.
