Newman Projections

Different notations are used to represent the three-dimensional structure of molecules on two-dimensional surfaces. One of the most commonly used representations is the dash-wedge formula. The dashed wedges, solid wedges, and the plane lines indicate the groups situated behind the plane, coming out of the plane, and in the plane, respectively.
The organic molecules rotate across the single bonds leading to numerous temporary three-dimensional structures of varying energy known as...

Fischer Projections

Learning to draw Fischer projections of molecules and understanding their relevance plays a crucial role in the visual depiction of organic molecules. A Fischer projection is a two-dimensional projection on a planar surface to simplify the three-dimensional wedge–dash representation of molecules. This is especially helpful in the case of molecules with multiple chiral centers that can be difficult to draw. Here, all the bonds of interest are represented as horizontal or vertical lines.

    Area of Science:

    • Computer Vision
    • Computer Graphics
    • Image Processing

    Background:

    • Projector-based style transfer faces challenges with surface textures and projector limitations, causing artifacts.
    • Existing compensation techniques struggle to eliminate these visually distracting artifacts.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To develop a language-guided projector image generation method that minimizes surface artifacts.
    • To enable visually pleasing surface style morphing effects through text prompts.

    Main Methods:

    • Proposed Projection Surface Adaptation (PSA) for compensable surface stylization.
    • Trained networks to simulate projector compensation and capture processes for efficient image generation.
    • Utilized gradient descent for fast convergence and designed content/saturation losses to prevent artifacts.

    Main Results:

    • Generated projector images that minimize perceivable artifacts on textured surfaces.
    • Achieved visually pleasing surface style morphing effects based on text prompts.
    • Demonstrated a method for artifact-free projector image generation without real-time capture.

    Conclusions:

    • LAPIG effectively addresses the challenge of generating artifact-free projector images guided by text.
    • The proposed Projection Surface Adaptation (PSA) enables robust style transfer onto textured surfaces.
    • This method opens new possibilities for dynamic and interactive surface stylization.
