Remote learning effectively teaches nursing students psychomotor skills like blood pressure measurement. Educator-guided remote training significantly improved skill acquisition compared to traditional methods.
Area of Science:
- Nursing Education
- Medical Simulation
- Remote Learning Technologies
Background:
- Innovative approaches are crucial in nursing education for continuous skill acquisition.
- Traditional face-to-face teaching methods face limitations in certain scenarios.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the effectiveness of remote learning for student nurses acquiring psychomotor skills.
- To assess the acquisition of blood pressure measurement skills through remote training.
Main Methods:
- Experimental design with group randomization (n=44).
- Mixed-method approach combining quantitative and qualitative data.
- Comparison of a control group (video program) and an experimental group (simulated patient with educator guidance).
Main Results:
- No significant difference in initial blood pressure measurement skills between groups.
- Significant improvement in psychomotor skills for the experimental group in the second assessment (p=0.001).
- Qualitative themes included emotions (happiness, anxiety), learning (awareness, skill acquisition), and self-confidence.
Conclusions:
- Educator-guided remote skill training positively impacts psychomotor skill acquisition in nursing students.
- Remote environments can be effective for teaching specific nursing skills with proper guidance.
