Management Approaches for Advanced Pelvic Organ Prolapse in the Geriatric Population

Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a common condition in the geriatric population, which is expected to increase in prevalence by 46% by the year 2050. With the increasing prevalence of POP in geriatric patients, physicians will have to balance the degree of patients' symptoms and bother with risk of interventions. There are several management strategies, including observation in asymptomatic patients, nonoperative management, transvaginal repairs, vaginal closure procedures, and robot-assisted abdominal prolapse repairs. We will discuss key considerations for determining the best management strategies for geriatric patients with advanced POP. Moreover, patient selection is paramount, especially in this population.
