Abstract:
Our article describes how the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths, and Injuries (STEADI) fall prevention initiative was adapted for outpatient physical therapy settings using the Framework for Reporting Adaptations and Modifications-Enhanced. The goal was to make STEADI more relevant and practical for physical therapists who play a key role in fall prevention for older adults. These adaptations did not impact STEADI's core elements, including (1) who receives the screening and additional assessments; (2) the use of the Stay Independent Questionnaire; (3) incorporation of balance and gait assessments; and (4) the use of an interprofessional team.
