A Comparison of Two Different Scales in Identifying the Risk of Falls in Leukaemia and Lymphoma Patients

Aim:
This study was conducted to assess the risk of falls in leukaemia and lymphoma patients using the Itaki Fall Risk Scale and the Fall Risk Assessment Scale Developed by the Delmarva Foundation and compare the data collected.
Design:
This study is descriptive and cross-sectional.
Methods:
The sample consisted of 84 patients diagnosed with leukaemia and lymphoma who were hospitalised in the haematology ward between March 2021 and December 2021.
Data:
Questionnaire, Itaki Fall Risk Scale, Delmarva Foundation Developed Fall Risk Assessment Scale and Visual Analog Scale (VAS) were collected. Appropriate analyses were performed.
Results:
According to both scales, the risk of falls increased as age, fatigue and pain scores increased.
Conclusions:
This study found that the sensitivity of the Itaki Fall Risk Scale (79.6%) was higher than that of the Fall Risk Assessment Scale Developed by the Delmarva Foundation (63.3%) when there was fear of unassisted falling; the risk of falling also increased with increasing age, fatigue and pain scores according to both scales, and there was no difference between the two scales in terms of risk of falling.
