Abstract:
Brain-gut axis disorders (BIGDs) are expressed as a combination of recurrent gastrointestinal symptoms without the presence of anatomical abnormalities, inflammation, or tissue damage. From 6-12 months of age there is a change in the defecatory pattern, which is characterized by a gradual decrease in the frequency of bowel movements and an increase in the consistency of the stool. Factors associated with functional constipation in this age group have not been well identified.
