    Summary

    Guided bone regeneration (GBR) using collagen membranes showed similar clinical and radiographic outcomes for both transmucosal and submerged healing strategies. Both approaches demonstrated safety and effectiveness in supporting dental implant placement.

    Background:

    • Guided bone regeneration (GBR) is crucial for dental implant success.
    • Collagen membranes are utilized to support GBR procedures.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare clinical and radiographic outcomes of transmucosal versus submerged healing for GBR.
    • To assess a novel collagen membrane's efficacy in supporting implant placement during GBR.

    Main Methods:

    • 20 patients (27 implants) underwent either transmucosal or submerged GBR.
    • Standardized CBCT scans were taken immediately post-treatment and at 4-6 months.
    • Evaluated parameters included bone-to-implant distance (DIB), crestal bone width, bone quality, complications, and pain.

    Main Results:

    • All implant sites healed uneventfully with minimal postoperative swelling and inflammation.
    • No statistically significant differences were observed between transmucosal and submerged GBR groups in CBCT parameters.
    • Facial bone wall thickness decreased significantly in both groups from immediate post-op to follow-up.

    • Both transmucosal and submerged GBR healing strategies using collagen membranes are safe and effective.
    • The study found no significant differences in clinical or radiographic outcomes between the two healing strategies.
    • Results align with existing evidence on the performance of collagen barrier membranes in GBR.
