    Summary

    Patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) showed increased physiological stress responses and anxiety during a stress test compared to controls. This suggests a psychophysiological component may be involved in atopic dermatitis.

    Background:

    • Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition.
    • The role of psychological factors in AD exacerbation is increasingly recognized.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the psychophysiological responses to stress in patients with atopic dermatitis.
    • To compare stress indicators between AD patients and healthy controls.

    Main Methods:

    • A stress test was administered to ten active AD patients and ten matched controls.
    • Electromyography (EMG) and heart rate were monitored.
    • Anxiety levels were assessed using the Symptom Checklist-90R (SCL-90R).
