Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe the symptom experiences of patients from 3 to 12 months post-COVID-19 hospitalization.

  • A longitudinal descriptive study design was employed.
  • Data were collected from 37 adult participants hospitalized for COVID-19.
  • Symptom experiences were assessed at four time points up to 12 months post-admission, between October 2020 and May 2022.

  • 87% of participants experienced at least one physical symptom at 12 months, similar to the 90% at 3 months.
  • Fatigue was the most frequently reported symptom across all time points.
  • Over a third (37%) reported significant symptom impact on routines, and over half (50%) experienced a worse quality of life post-COVID-19.

  • Long COVID symptoms significantly affect a substantial number of individuals, impacting daily life and quality of life.
  • Nurses are uniquely positioned to identify high-risk patients and provide essential assessments, monitoring, and interventions.
  • Holistic care addressing physical, emotional, and mental health symptoms is crucial for managing Long COVID.
