Introduction:
Aquagenic pruritus is a chronic debilitating itchy skin condition triggered by water exposure with limited treatment options.
Case Presentation:
Here, we present a case of primary aquagenic pruritus in an adult male who was successfully treated with β-alanine. Treatment efficacy was maintained at 20-week follow-up.
Conclusion:
This study adds to the body of evidence supporting a role for β-alanine as an efficient and safe treatment option in patients with aquagenic pruritus. Furthermore, it includes a discussion of the pharmacodynamics of β-alanine and provides an insight into the pathophysiology of aquagenic pruritus.

Basicity of Aliphatic Amines
To measure the basicity of amines, two conventions are generally used. The first defines Kb as the basicity constant for the deprotonation reaction of water by the amine, as presented in Figure 1. Conventionally, lower Kb indicates...

At the neuromuscular junction, these agents work by inhibiting the breakdown of acetylcholine, allowing it to remain bound to the receptor and bind to nearby receptors. This process leads to repetitive firing of the endplate, causing muscle...
