Sedanolide: A review on its chemical compounds, mechanisms and functions

Abstract:
Sedanolide is a natural phthalein isolated from the seed oil of the Umbelliferae family. Over the past few decades, sedanolide has received widespread attention due to its unique biological activity and potential medicinal value. Here, the chemical structure, extraction methods, biological activity, and application prospects of sedanolide in recent years are reviewed, along with the signaling regulatory mechanism of sedanolide. This review shows that sedanolide has many physiological functions, including anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activity. The therapeutic mechanism of sedanolide involves multiple targets, multiple pathways, and bidirectional regulation. Sedanolide, a promising and potential drug in the future, will be used in treating cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and digestive system conditions, cancer, and other conditions, also widely used in the pharmaceutical and food industries.
